Yesterday i was submitting my website using a form to a one of the online directories. i was asked to put a lot of detail that wasn't really needed and that bothered me a bit, after i clicked submit i found an error displayed which says "your description is too long" i felt more frustrated then decided to go on with the submission.

after i corrected the description problem and clicked submit an error was displayed saying that i didn't enter a password but this time all the data i entered was erased and I was asked to enter them again.

Of course I clicked on the “X” button at the top of my Mozilla browser and felt really frustrated. I didn't even notice the site's name but if i would have noticed it i would have told everybody i know about how horrible it was !!

How the online user, thinks, behaves and acts?

Of course its pretty logical that such frustrating websites can kill conversion rates but do you know that something as simple as an additional text field in a registration form can lower conversion rates??

If you want to increase conversion rates on a website that you must understand that the online user is:

• Very picky!! There are hundreds of alternatives out there, bother him by doing the simplest thing that he dislikes and he will leave your site
• Lazy: Each additional step in a checkout process or every additional blank field in a form reduces conversion rates.
• Not technical savvy: Navigation mustn't me simple, but it must be designed for the Dumb user not the average one
• Terrified: People are sick of scammers, lost trust in everyone online and will never give their information to a suspicious looking website

In short, in order to get good conversion rates you must design your site for a dumb, frustrated, picky and lazy users.
