I have submitted my website manually to over 1000 directories by hand over the past three years and when I check my inbound links I found NO SINGLE LINK counted coming from those directories!!!

How to build backlinks that are really worthy

Go to Google webmaster tools and check the inbound links Google has recorded for your site. Examine these links to know which ones Google found useful and which ones weren’t worth mentioned.

If you found that a certain article website appeared as one of the sources of the inbound links to your website then you surely must submit more articles to that site.

If you found that a comment on a certain blog was counted as a backlink then you must go and make more comments on that blog.

Focusing on the links that work will result in letting Google give a higher rank to your website and your Google listing will improve.
