Before you sell products on your website you must first know that you are about to move from running a website to running an E-Business. An E-business is not a website that sells products but its actually a business that is selling its goods and services online.

Whether you are selling electronic goods, Ebooks or physical goods there are few points that you should be aware of in order to succeed in the online world. My Ebooks are very successful and are making good sales because I understood those principles and i applied them from the moment I started selling. In order to sell goods successfully online stick to the following principles.

Be an entrepreneur not an opportunity seeker

Opportunity seekers set up websites that have few pages, usually selling pages only, sell mediocre products, make some profits and then make another website. While such a method usually yields some profits still it will never bring you a respectable income nor it will help you maintain a steady source of income for the rest of your life.

Entrepreneurs on the other hand have a vision, a mission and a big plan for their website. They know why they have started It and where they want to take it in the next few years. To become an entrepreneur you must plan for your website from a long term perspective. You must invest for the future, be patient until you build traffic and wait until you have a customer base.

What is your competitive advantage?

What competitive advantage does your product have that will let users buy it from you instead of buying it from competitors? Do you provide a superior level of service? Does your product have specifications that other products don’t have? Is your product way cheaper than the competitor’s products?

If you don’t have a competitive advantage then you might not be able to make a single sale because consumers will be seeking other products that have better advantages. After all if others offer products that are better than yours then why should customers buy from you?

Wikipedia has all the information you might want to look for, youtube has all the videos you might want to see and facebook allows you to contact almost everyone you know, what does your website offer??

Long term relationship with the customers

The main aim of selling products on your website is to make money. I am sure you don’t plan to sell only one product for the rest of your life and that’s why you should put into consideration that users who bought your first product might be interested in buying your second and third.

That’s why you must ensure that those who bought a product from you are happy and satisfied with it. Superior customer service, maintain regular contact with customers and responding to customer’s feedback are essential requirements for online success.

Sell your own products

Affiliate programs are great but they will never allow you to make the amount of money you can make by selling your own products. Moreover by selling your own products you will have more control on prices, quality and all aspects concerning the product that you otherwise would not have control over.

Even if you managed to make money through affiliate programs the credit will still go to the real developer or author instead of you. If you sold a very successful eBook then people will give credit to the book author and not to the site that they bought the book from.

Make your website popular not the product

Some people have websites that have no more than 2 pages that sell a single product. While some people make money this way still they will have to make tremendous effort marking for each new product they make.

When you think of your website as an E-business you will understand that making your website popular means that you can introduce any new product at anytime without having to spend months marketing for it.

Having a popular website is like having a store that is visited by hundreds of visitors everyday day. All what you have to do in order to to sell them a new product is to put it on the shelf and some of them will buy it.

Understand the Consumer’s psychology

Most consumers aren’t by any means rational, if you understood the way they think you will be able to design your website and sales page according to what pleases them and you won’t have any problems making sales to them.
