How to make your articles popular

My first website is now getting 350,000 hits every month because lots of the articles I wrote there became popular. Writing popular articles doesn’t only require that you have good content but it also requires that you know how to present this content to people in order to let it appeal to them.

In this article I will explain how you can write popular articles so that you can get more traffic and make more money out of your website.

Few tips you won’t find somewhere else

The following tips are based on my personal experience, psychology and marketing, they will help you write popular articles:

• Impress me so that I read your article: People usually read the first few lines to determine if the article is worth reading, if your first few lines were powerful enough then they will continue to the end of the article. How did you feel when you read the first 2 lines in this post??
• Most users don’t read but scan: Already know this? But here is how you can make the best use of it. People usually scan the sub headers to see if they already have information about this topic, if they felt that they read something similar to it before then they will skip the whole section!! So make sure you have subtitles that are different than the common ones. For example instead of writing “Tips for making your website popular” I wrote “Few tips you won’t find somewhere else” this will prevent those who scan for similar content from skipping this section.
• More of the same?: People usually Google the keywords that they want then read the first 10 or 20 articles that show up, during this process people ignore pages that have the same content as others or that have repetitive information. One of the ways you can prevent users from skipping your articles even if you don’t have new information is to present the information in a way that makes it appear original (see my article How to make a popular website for more information about this topic)
• What do you have in there?:The title of your article is the most vital part of it simply because unless the title appeals to readers they wont read your article at all. See my article How to write interesting blogs for more information on this topic
• Give them value: People wont refer your article to someone else until they find something useful in it. Provide original content, give effective advices, teach people how to do something or give them any kind of benefit you can. Only then they will refer your article and only then it can become popular.
• Popular but buried: Without having your article appearing on the top of search results in search engines then it will never become popular even if it had flawless content.
