Teaching people how I became a dot com millionaire

2 years ago I started 2knowmyself.com, and now I am making several thousands of dollars online. Within 2 years the website’s traffic has jumped to become one of the very popular websites for self understanding. The website was only run by me and I got a little help from some friends along the way.

The reason I am telling you this is not to tell you how great I am but to let you know that making money online is not hard and is even possible for most of us. Every day, millions of new users come online, I have read in an article that about 55 million new persons start to use the internet everyday, what if you managed to let only 1% of them visit your website?? This one percent could be translated to earnings of more than 5000 dollars/day, what’s enough to make you quit any job in the world.

How to make money from a website?

I am not going to tell you that you have to put Google ads or sell products on your website simply because these are intuitive advices that anyone will think of when starting his website. The most important thing you should focus on is to build traffic to your website. Suppose that you have a supper market that is visited by 100 persons/day, won’t it be simple to sell them some of your new products??

The same goes for websites, let’s suppose that you managed to get 1000 unique visits to your website/day, this low number of visits might result in 10 purchases of your products and in many clicks on your Google ads.

Its all about traffic

Without traffic you will not be able to make any money, after all, Google ads wont give you money unless people click on the ads and your products wont be sold unless you have traffic. Usually out of every 100 visit to a product’s page 2 or 3 people buy the product, of course this not an industry specific number as it can change according to many factors but we can assume that the average is 2 to 3 purchases online out of every 100 visits.

Getting 10,000 visits to your products page per day will mean that you will be making 200 to 300 orders per day which might translate to 3000 dollars/day if your product is worth 10 dollars.

So as you saw traffic is everything, without getting high traffic the estimates we just made will become day dreams. All you have to do is write interesting articles and then optimize them so that users can find them through search engines. Why would people visit my site?

This brings us to a very important topic, why would people leave the billions of websites out there and visit yours?? The answer is very simple, its either that you are providing something very new that people are in need of or its either that you are providing something old but in a better way. Facebook wasn’t the first social networking website yet its now one of the very popular websites, simply because it introduced social networking in a better way than competitors. So contrary to common beliefs, you don’t have to have a new idea in order to start, you just have to know how to make an old idea better than the current competitors.
