Promoting your website using blog comments

Before reading this article it makes a lot of sense to know that my first site 2knowmyself gets more than and that I make a respectful five digit income each month out of it.

One of the most misunderstood concepts about promoting a website is the role of Blog comments to bring traffic to a website. When I read articles about blog promotion online I find that most bloggers just post the tip “Comment on other blogs” without testing what they are saying and without getting a single hit out of this tip they are promoting.

Its all about connecting with the other blogger, not posting the comment

The main idea of posting a Blog comment on another blog is to not get few hits out of the other blog but to connect with the other blogger who is writing about your same niche. (see Promoting your site by connecting with other bloggers).

In order for a Blog comment to be effective it must be done on a popular blog that targets the same kind of readers you are targeting. The comment should not be something like “Great post Sam” or “I learned a lot thank you” but it should be in the form of an informative post that complements and the article and makes people curious to know who that person who wrote these lines is.

Again am repeating, connecting with the other blogger should be your primary goal because making such a person aware of your blog is the first step towards motivating him to link to it later or to mention it in one of his posts.

Don’t use blog comments alone, try to connect using all available methods

You shouldn’t just depend on Blog comments alone to connect with the other blogger but in addition you must try to :

1) Reach him on facebook, myscape…etc
2) Send him a message using the contact form on his site
3) Asking him to exchange links with you
4) Asking him for a guest post

The point is not letting the blogger agree to any of the previous demands but your main concern should be letting him know that you exist!! Once all known bloggers know that you are there certainly they will link to your blog or mention it one day and then you will get real traffic.

Blogging is like being in a cocktail party (Seth godin said so), if you want to be known then you must go in between the crowed and tell them that you are here else no one will notice your presence.

I communicate, therefore I exist, this is the main rule of the blogging sphere.
