Should I put my photo on my blog?

As a psychologist I can confidently tell you that in 99% of the time putting your photo on your Blog might not be a good idea. If your Blog’s main purpose is letting people know you then adding a picture might not be a problem but if your main goal is making money or having an online business then its better not to add your picture.

The first website that I started Is now getting more than and yet I never added my picture to it. In this article I will explain why its not advised to use a picture in your Blog or website.

Why you should not put your picture on your Blog (based on psychology)

Bad Anchors:
You might think that there are good looking people and bad looking ones but this is a common myth, you only see certain people beautiful because they look like beautiful ones you have met before in your past, that’s why some people might fall in love with someone similar to their opposite sexed parent.

If you had a horrible boss then saw someone who looks like him then most probably you won’t find him good looking even if he was. So what does this has to do with your blog?

If for some people you looked like their horrible boss, for others you looked like the guy who used to bully them in school while for a third group you looked like that evil person who threatened them one day then people wont establish a personal bond with you successfully which is one of the most important ingredients for having a successful blog.

The power of the unknown:
Why do lots of people fear darkness? Because they don’t know what kind of danger they might encounter in a dark place. Had they knew what was there they would have never feared it that way. When something is unknown to us we tend to use our visualization to draw a picture for it and usually this picture is much more exaggerated than the reality.

When people don’t see your picture each one of them is going to visualize you according to his own imagination, and this will always be on your side if your writings were good. For example you might be a 20 years old guy while a 40 years old woman who reads your posts visualizes you as a 60 year old expert with white hair. If this woman saw your picture and discovered that you are younger than her she might become less motivated to read your posts and she won't be able to trust you easily.

Let go of your Ego at least for a while

I know you want to become famous and I know that you want to put your picture on your Blog but why do it in the early times? Wait until your blog becomes popular then put all the pictures you want because at this time people will trust you because of your popularity even if you look like their arrogant boss.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, don’t let people fool you into thinking otherwise2.
