Where to place Adsense ads on my website

At the time of writing this article I am making a 5 Digit income from my websites. One of my main sources of income are the online Ads I put on my websites.

Through experience I have discovered that proper Ad placement can result in overnight increases in your Ads income. A single move can increase your earnings by as much as 50% if it was a correct a move.

Ad placement and the visitor’s goal

Whether we know it or not, we are all goal oriented. No one visits a certain site unless he has a certain Goal in his mind. When you design your website you must make sure that the design’s main goal is to smoothly guide the visitor to achieve his goal.

But what does this have to do with ad placement?
Whenever a user finds that his goal wasn’t accomplished by visiting a certain site he will leave. One of the best places to place an Ad is at the possible exit points so that the visitor clicks on them instead of browsing to another site. (see How to maximize Google Adsense revenue).

Lets suppose that someone visited your website to read a certain article , It will make a lot of sense to put the Ad at the bottom of the article so that the user clicks on it if he decided to leave.

Ads should not let users leave their site unless they really want to

Suppose that you are making money out of a certain affiliate program. In this case you wouldn’t want those who were going to make a purchase to click on the Ad since this click will prevent you from earning the affiliate commission.

Ads must be placed only in pages where other conversion goals are not desired. For example its not recommended to place ads on pitch pages or pages where you are advertising your you affiliate products on.
