Writing popular articles

Since lots of my articles became popular on the internet and since my first website started getting more than I decided to write an article that can help you make your articles popular too.

In part one of this article, techniques for writing popular articles I focused on the article’s content itself but in this article I will focus on telling you how to let people read your article instead of scanning it.

Most internet users scan articles very quickly instead of reading them and this might result in letting them overlook your great content and so your articles might never become popular.

The speed of reading not speed reading

Fortunately you can control the speed of reading of the internet user so that you force him to read you article instead of scanning it quickly.

Lists and bullet points are nice but when they become long (more than 5) the scarcity element is removed and so the user scans the article instead of reading it. The more the reader feels that the resource is scare the slower will be his speed of reading and vise versa.

If you want to write popular articles then you should avoid popular sub titles.
The internet user usually scans the title of a paragraph before reading the paragraph itself. If the title was so common then the reader might believe that the paragraph contains information that he already knows and so he will skip the whole paragraph!!

Long blog posts & writing popular articles

Now imagine that you have an article that contains bullets that have common titles, do you think your content will ever be read? No, it will be scanned very quickly and most of it will be missed.

The longer the blog post the more likely the reader will scan it or he might even bookmark it for later viewing. The longer the paragraphs of your article the more likely the reader will become overwhelmed by the information so make sure your paragraphs are as short as possible. So in short, a crucial step in writing popular articles is to let people read them because unless your words are read how can they become popular?
