Sometimes a single small action that takes few minutes could result in doubling the income you get from adsense. In this article I will explain some of the effective methods that can help you maximize your adsense revenue.

The first thing you should know when attempting to maximize your ad sense revenue is that the click percentage is the main source of income, which is the number of users who click on the ads compared to the number of the site visitors. All the methods in this article will focus on increasing the click percentage or Page CTR as Google calls it.

Where to place your ads?

The below image is taken from the Google Adsense site. It shows the hot spots that the viewer’s eye notices first, with orange being the most eye catching locations and white being the least. If your website is using another language that is written from right to left like Arabic or Hebrew then these locations should be inverted.

According to the image its clear that putting an ad in the top left and a one in the top middle will help you increase the click rate. When I first started 2knowmyself.com and before it became popular I used to place the Google skyscraper right below the orange part in the left (where the yellow block resides) , as soon as I moved the skyscraper up to the orange area the revenues increased 50%!!.

Ads rotation

If your website is highly dependent on loyal visitors, like for example Hotmail where users always return to check their mails, then changing the ads locations might make a big difference in revenues. After a while people start to get usex to the place of the ad then ignore looking at it automatically, this is why a sudden change in the ads place will increase the click percentage.

Link units

If you aren’t using link units then consider adding them right now. Link units are small ad units that can appear within the page’s content, see the picture below:

The great thing about link units is that people sometimes think that these ads are normal links inside the website that leads to other sections instead of thinking of them as ads and this is what helps in increasing the click rate. Try to placing link units within the page’s body in order to maximize your advertising revenue.

Contrast

If there is little or no contrast between your ads and your pages then people might not notice them. Google adsense allows you to change the colors of your ads according to your needs. Pick colors that have a good contrast with your website’s design so that they become more visible to users.

Loading order

The viewer’s eye will always notice the element that load first, placing your ads in the top of the page will help them load first since browsers read pages from the top to the bottom.

Reduce Distraction

If your website is full of images and simulations then most probably they will take the lights from your ads. People notice simulations first, then images then text. If your ads are text ads then having lots of graphics on your website might hurt your click ratio.

Another thing, distractions can even prevent potential buyers from buying your products. While being in the selling page customers can be distracted by any links or images on the page then end up clicking on one of them leaving your product behind.
